REMEMBERING
CHRISTIAN HEINZMANN

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I announce the passing of my father, Christian Heinzmann, who passed away in Luxembourg on Sunday July 22nd, 2018, after a brave four-year long battle with cancer. He was 65.

Words fall short in times like these. I have stared at my keyboard for days now but I just can’t seem to be able to put a sentence together that pays sufficient tribute to my father. Where do I even start? No combination of words could ever do justice to my father’s legacy or the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him.

My father was an absolutely selfless man who always put his family and friends first and himself second. A man who gave everything and worked hard so his children could enjoy the life he never had.

Despite coming from humble beginnings, my father’s ambition and determination allowed him to defy the odds and propelled him to the top of the aviation industry where he held key positions at various national and regional airlines like Belgium’s Air Europe, Trans European Airlines, Sobelair, Constellation International Airlines, VLM, Luxembourg’s Luxair, Albania’s Albanian Airlines, Bangladesh's GMG Airlines, and Romania’s Tarom. Everywhere he went, and in each position he held, he garnered the admiration, respect and loyalty of all those who worked with and for him.

An incredibly charismatic leader, mentor, and widely recognized as an expert in his field, my father was a man of his word who led by example and action. A man with a strong moral compass who stood his ground and never backed down in the face of adversity. A man of honor and integrity. A true role-model for anyone in a position of leadership.

I have not only lost my father, I have lost my best friend and role model. Nothing will ever fill the massive void he has left behind. All I can do is work hard to make him proud and try to become at least 1% of the man he was. I couldn’t be more proud to be his son.

Rest in peace, Papa. You were the best father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, boss or colleague anyone could ever ask for. You will be missed beyond belief, by so many.

I would also like to take a moment to express my extreme gratitude for all of those who have been so incredibly supportive of my father and our family during this 4 year battle. I would also like to recognize all the touching news articles and social media posts I have seen online over the past few days. Seeing how fondly my father will be remembered by people from all over the world is incredibly touching and fills me with such pride. The unbelievable speed with which the news spread through news outlets & social media is a true testament to my father and the man he was.

For those of you who knew my father, it would really mean the world to my family and I if you could share a small story about him in the Storybook. I will be compiling them all to create a booklet of memories in his honor.

We plan to celebrate his incredible life in September. Exact place and time to be confirmed. For more information please feel free to get in touch.

Thank you
Oliver Heinzmann
